We offer free, hands-on sailing experiences on the legendary Free Spirit in Honolulu, led by experienced sailors who believe the water should be open to all — for recreation, adventure, and careers. Early exposure matters more than ever as the maritime world faces a growing shortage of skilled mariners. By partnering with brands that support access, learning, and community, we remove the traditional barriers to sailing and replace them with confidence, curiosity, and fun. No yacht clubs, no certifications, no gatekeeping — just real people getting their first taste of sailing.
THE BOAT
The legendary trimaran Free Spirit has long been part of Hawaii’s waterfront. Built as a custom ocean-cruising trimaran in San Diego and having sailed the Caribbean through the South Pacific and even Galapagos before arriving in Hawaii, she operated as a famous sailing club for 20 years. She has always stood for learning, adventure, and community.
THE TEAM
Captain
Mike is a husband, father, surfer, sailor, and serial entrepreneur. (He opened Kono's Restaurant on the North Shore of Oahu in 2002). Mike learned to sail in college at UC Santa Barbara many years ago where he received degrees in Communication and Sports Management. He holds a US Coast Guard captain license.
First Mate & Digital Marketing Manager
Merrick (Captain Mike's son) was born on the North Shore of Oahu and is an accomplished surfer and sailor.
Both are certified Red Cross lifeguards and have worked together on boats in Hawaii, having taken thousands of people, snorkeling, whale watching, and sightseeing.
